Robert S. Hicks, Jr.
Robert Hicks is the Founder and Managing Partner of Capstar Capital, LLC. Robert currently serves on the Board of Directors of Star Dental Partners and Stonecreek Dental Care. Robert is a Founder and Managing Partner of Fremantle Capital and serves as an Executive Partner for Chicago-based Tyree & D’Angelo Partners. Robert recently served on the Board of Greenstream International and led the 2018 sale of GSI’s assets to Aucnet, Inc., a publicly-traded Japanese company. Hicks served on the Board of Chicago-based Elite Dental Partners for four years until its successful recapitalization by Cressey and Company in 2018. Prior to founding Capstar Capital in 2018, Robert spent 11 years as a Partner and President of Capstar Partners.
At Capstar Partners, Robert served on the board, helped build and oversee, and ultimately served as the shareholder representative in the sale of: DMX, Inc. (sold to Mood Media (TSX: MM) in 2012 for $104 million), Harden Healthcare’s home health and hospice business (sold to Gentiva Health Services (NASDAQ: GTIV) in 2013 for $408 million, CPO Commerce (sold to United Stationers (NASDAQ: USTR) in 2014 for $42 million), and Harden Healthcare’s long-term care business (sold to Senior Care Centers in 2015 for $45 million). Robert directed Capstar’s investment in Kendra Scott Design, which represented the first outside equity investment in the highly successful jewelry business. Robert also managed the development and eventual sale of Capstar’s real estate assets, including residential developments in Big Sky, Montana and St. Barth’s.
Before joining Capstar Partners, Hicks co-founded and ran the finance department for CPO Commerce, an e-commerce company partnering with manufacturers to sell pre-owned consumer products. Prior to co-founding CPO Commerce, Robert served as Director of Business Development & Analysis for CLICK Radio, a start-up venture providing digital music services. Hicks began his career as an investment banking analyst in the Media & Telecom Group of Credit Suisse in New York. He also worked in Chicago for a multi-strategy hedge fund, serving in the convertible arbitrage and venture lending groups.
Robert received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a double major in Mathematics and Economics. Hicks is a chartered financial analyst and a member of the CFA Institute.
Mr. Hicks has been a member of the Austin Chapter of the Young President’s Organization (YPO) since 2009. Robert lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and three children.
